How to save game progress on the original NES

All games that supported saving on the original NES system would prompt you to "HOLD RESET WHILE YOU TURN POWER OFF". Doing this actually prevents the save file on the battery from being erased. So, if you're using a multi-cartridge on an NES system which have some games that support saving game progress and you care about retaining that save progress, you should always hold reset while you turn power off, even if you're not prompted to do so!
